What Are Dental Veneers?
Dental veneers are essentially tooth masks made of high-quality materials like porcelain or composites that mimic the natural color of healthy teeth.
Unlike a dental crown that fits over the whole tooth, veneers are attached only to the front of the tooth.
Are Veneers Permanent?
Yes and no. Veneers are permanent in the sense that you cannot take them out the way you would dentures. That said, they do have a lifespan of around 15 years. Over time, the bond between the veneer and your tooth’s enamel will weaken.
When this bond degrades, the veneers must be replaced. This is something to consider before getting veneers. Once you have them, you’ll need to keep them for the health and safety of your teeth.
What Is The Process For Dental Veneers?
After your teeth are prepped, they’ll be scanned digitally or impressions will be made using a mold. This allows the veneers to be tailored to your unique bite.
The amount of enamel shaved off to fit your new veneers determines whether you have temporary veneers placed while your permanent ones are crafted.
Once your permanent veneers are ready, they’ll be cemented in place with a composite mixture hardened by an ultraviolet lamp.
How Long Do Veneers Last?
When properly cared for, you can expect porcelain veneers to last 15 years or longer.
